Itinerary

Day 1 : New York City - York - Portland

Our tour leaves New York in the morning for York, Maine to visit York’s Wild Kingdom. Set on a 25 acre campus, the Wild Kingdom doubles as both a zoo and an amusement park. There truly is something for all members of the family. From paddle boats, arcades, go karts, to haunted houses and Bengal tigers; you’ll have the time of your life at York’s Wild Kingdom.

From there we then travel to Portland, Maine - the largest city in Maine. A blend of seascape and cityscape perched on a lively peninsula, Portland is a dash of New England charm and metropolitan hub. Enjoy the city sites and the shopping, but don’t forget to sample the local seafood cuisine! Next we stop at the Portland Head Light, the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Situated at the entrance of Casco Bay, the lighthouse was built under directive of George Washington and has a rich history matched only by its beauty.

Standard Hotel (2 star to 3 star): Wonder View Inn, Fireside Inn Bangor, Hilton Garden Inn or similar

Day 2 : Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor, Thunder Hole, Cadillac Mt.)

On the second day of our tour we will explore the rugged coast of Maine in the first national park east of the Mississippi River: Acadia National Park. With mountains, lakes, ponds and ocean shoreline, Acadia National Park was once the home of the Wabanaki people. The scenic 47,000 acre park is now a refuge to a wide variety of plants and animals including more than 40 species of mammalian wildlife. For those of you interested in marine life, you will have the opportunity to board the Acadia Nature Cruise ----- a fully narrated cruise that highlights the whales, seals and other animal life that inhabits the area (weather permitting). You’ll fall in love with the landscape as the cruise takes you along the awe inspiring coast.

A visit to Acadia National Park would not be complete without seeing Thunder Hole and Bar Harbor. Thunder Hole is named for the thundering crash of the ocean on the inlets. Here the waves can spout up to 40 feet high as they slam into the rocks! Join us as we visit Bar Harbor ----- a quaint seaside town reminiscent of fishing days of yore. This coastal village is now a haven for tourists (and shoppers!) all over the world hoping to soak in the sun and scenery. Don’t miss a chance to climb Cadillac Mountain on the outskirts of town. At 1532 feet, Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the eastern seaboard, and the first place the sunrise touches on the country.

Standard Hotel (2 star to 3 star): Wonder View Inn, Fireside Inn Bangor, Hilton Garden Inn or similar

Day 3 : Mystic Aquarium - Mystic Seaport - New York City

Next we travel to Connecticut to the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. With over 110,000 square feet of exhibit space, the 18 acre site is one of four locations in the United States housing Steller sea lions and Beluga whales. From exhibits on African penguins to jelly fish, the Aquarium features something for all inquiring minds. You’ll even have the opportunity to touch live rays and sharks! Be sure to catch the RMS Titanic exhibit and investigate some of the mysteries of the deep. Next we head to Mystic Seaport. It is the nation’s leading maritime museum founded in 1929. It gathers and preserves the rapidly disappearing artifacts of America’s seafaring past. A stroll through the historic village transports visitors back to the mid-1800s where they can experience firsthand from staff historians, storytellers, musicians, and craftspeople just what life was like to earn ones living from the sea. From here our tour returns to New York.
